Printer Communication

I am using VB to develop a small print monitoring program.

I am using win2k print server, hp Laserjet 4200 and win 98/2000 clients logging on NT4.0.
I am now stuck on how I can talk to windows printer manager to pause jobs, count number of pages and release jobs for printing depending on a number of things.

By the Way, this example and the other posted will allow you to monitor the printer, i dont know what kind of operations you want to do, but in Visual Basic is quite complex to Start/Pause Printer Jobs , if you use traditional methods trough API's like SetJob, is probable that your software at a first view will work correctly, but later you will have problems. This is due that the methods of detect new jobs trought the API (FindFirstPrinterChangeNotification and FindNextChangeNotification) using pooling while notify to your application that a new printer job arrives and your application pause or release the printer, send data to the printer and then you can have some problems.
Maybe a good way to make this is working with two printers, one paused and one real and with the spools files. You use the paused one to detect the job and make the evaluations and the real one to print.

I have just downloaded and installed it on my PC connected to a printer but there is nothing to view even if I send a job for printing.

Counting print pages is not so easy!!!
Sometimes Winspool will show the print job size only... So the most effective way to count printed pages is by analysing the Printer Description Language (PCL, POSTSCRIPT, Epson, etc...)

I've tried the code from vinnyd79 and deprezl... vinnyd79 works better for me!!!
But anyone of them could help you...

This maybe is not an "answer"... just a tip! ;o)
