The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Program Error in installed application

Asked by EYoung in Visual Basic Programming

Basics:  VB6 sp5, CR9.0, Windows XP and 2000

I have created on my Windows 2000 development computer a VB6 application (Contract_Tracking.exe) that has some Crystal Reports 9.0 reports in it.  The application has been deployed over the past two years using the PDW and it has been running fine on everyone's computer including the reporting until now.

Recently my development computer was upgraded to XP with the latest service packs.  Also recently our firm purchased some new computers running W/2000 for some new users.  Because the new users needed the application, I re-ran the PDW and successfully installed it onto the new user's computers.

When I run the application on the user's computers, it runs correctly except when it comes to reporting.  (The application and the reporting run correctly on my development computer.)  When I run any report however on the user's computer, I get the following error message:

"Program Error.  Contract_Tracking.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.  You will need to restart the program.  An error log is being created.  OK"

I looked at the Dr. Watson's error log and it just showed me a core dump - nothing useful.  The above error message does not say much as to what the cause is.

Would appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this error.  I suspect I have not installed a needed CR dll or I have installed an older version.  I am running CR version 9.2.3.850 which includes sp 2 on my development computer.   Maybe the upgrade of my development computer from W/2000 to W/XP is causing the error.

Thanks for the help.
