The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Parsing a numeric string into an array

Asked by jbcase01 in Visual Basic Programming

Tags: array, string, parsing

Hi,

I have an application that transferrs data via TCP.  On the client side, I am reading in data into an array and then sending it to a server application.

This data appears on the server side via text box, in this format:

2767364826548364983682376 (for example)

I would like to parse these numbers and then place them into an array, which then will be read into a spreadsheet for further calculation.

Here is some of the code:

'**** Client side****
Private Sub txtSendData_Change()
    'Clear values from txtSendData.text
    'If txtSendData.Text = "" Then
    '    GoTo Home:
    'End If

'The TextBox control named txtSendData contains the data to be sent.
'Whenever the value of the textbox changes to something other than
'"Go", then the string is sent to the Server via the SendData method.
    If txtSendData.Text = "Go" Then
        'txtSendData.Text Clear
        Call OpenArena
    ElseIf txtSendData.Text <> "Go" And txtSendData.Text <> "" Then
'Send value placed by Arena Calculation
        tcpClient.SendData txtSendData.Text
    'ElseIf txtSendData.Text = "OK" Then
    '    tcpClient.SendData OK
    End If

'Home:
End Sub

'**** Server Side ****

Private Sub tcpServer_DataArrival(ByVal bytesTotal as long)
'Declare a variable for the incoming data
     Dim strData as String
     tcpServer.GetData strData
txtPC1.Text = strData                  'This text box displays the incoming data from PC #1
End Sub

Currently I am transferring files via TCP to the remote PC's, and could do the same for incoming data as well.  However, how can I parse the number string thereby avoiding another file transfer?

Additionally, I know that there is probably a better way to accomplish this... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-B.
