Question

Export Distribution List Members (from Active Directory to Excel)

Asked by: BNettles73

Anyone have a quick script for exporting global distribution list members from an Active Directory/Exchange Group to an excel spreadsheet? I have quite a bit of knowledge on how to export users and the groups, but can't seem to figure out how to pull the members of the group.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

I can't seem to nail down once specific group ...

If a group was named "Principals" and located in "ou=DistributionLists,ou=Accounts,dc=Corp,dc=Contoso,dc=com" .. how would I pull the members of one specific group?

I think this would pull all groups, but I have several thousand and only want the members of a few groups for reporting purposes.
csvde -f c:\dls.txt -r "(&(objectCategory=group)(proxyAddresses=*))"

I thought there may be a quick way to pull members (saMMAccount name, proxyAddress) from the actual group ... can you point me in the right direction?

How would I modify this script if I wanted to pull the members of the group below? I apologize for my ignorance, I've modified and created some general VB scripts to pull or modify information, but haven't done any ADSI scripting.  I'd also like to pull the SMTP address since some of the users are mail-enabled contacts. Is this possible?

This should give you what you're looking for...

Dim objGroup, objExcel, iRow, strUser
Set objGroup = GetObject("LDAP://CN=myDistList,ou=Messaging,dc=myDomain,dc=com")

Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
With objExcel
  .SheetsInNewWorkbook = 1
  .Workbooks.Add
  .Visible = True
  .Worksheets.Item(1).Name = mid(objGroup.Name, instr(1,objGroup.Name,"=") + 1 ) 'set Worksheet name to that of the DL
  irow=1

 For Each strUser in objGroup.Member
    Set objUser =  GetObject("LDAP://" & strUser)
    .Cells(iRow,1) = objUser.CN
    irow=irow + 1
 Next
 .Columns(1).entirecolumn.autofit
End With

Set objExcel = Nothing
Set objGroup = Nothing

Hi Neil,
how are you?

I was taking a look at your script and I don't why this script is not working inside my production environment. I tested it inside my tailspintoys.com AD environment test and it worked fine but inside my production environment , it didn't work. did you do any limitation to make a research inside AD, I mean, size of domain name or the quantity of OU you can make this research?

Waiting for your feedback.

Osagarana;.

Try posting a new question - I know there are methods for expanding the results and including sub structures, but it's really outside the scope of this original question.  Good luck!
