The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

LDAP syntax

Asked by DrewK in Visual Basic Programming

I need help using LDAP to retrieve info from an Exchange server.

So far, I have the following (which doesn't work):

Set objOU = GetObject("LDAP://ou=accounting, ou=distribution lists, ou=users, ou=cleveland, dc=ds, dc=company, dc=com")

I get an error message:

"There is no such object on the server"

So, I know that I don't have the hiearchy right, but I'm not sure how to figure out what it is without being an admin on the server.

Now, "accounting" is a distribution list...I'm trying to retrieve all members from that DL.

In the main outlook address book window, the e-mail address field for the accouting DL looks something like:  "/O=company/OU=ABC/cn=Recipients/cn=accounting" in the e-mail address field.

I say "something like" because I am obviously substituting some of the values.

However, if I actually double-click that entry and look at the properties, I get:

"c=US; a=; p=company; o=ABC; s=accounting;"

By the way, ABC is a server...I think, but it's only one word instead of other server names that we use that are in a format like xxx-xx-xxx-xxx.

I am happiest doing this within VBA (from within Access) and so if you want to give me a solution in VB, I can convert it myself.

However, I will be happy getting a solution in vbscript that I can run in a Shell.

This is worth 500 since I need it quick!
