Check if an icon (index) is valid

Greetings,

When I have a DLL file, and the Icon index mentioned, is there a way to programatically check if the Icon really exists?

Examples:

C:\MyIcons\Main.dll,30
C:\MyIcons\Main.dll,-5

Is there a way to check if the icons really exist, and optionally preview the icon in a PictureBox control? I guess we need to use "ExtractIcon" function for the latter.

Thanks! I got that the solution for the 2nd part immediately (from freevbcode.com) after posting the question here. Any idea about the 1st part, which is to check if the user has entered the correct Icon index?

the api "ExtractIconEx" returns zero if the icon is not existing

example:

L = ExtractIconEx(sExeName, 500, glLargeIcons(lIndex), glSmallIcons(lIndex), 1)

L is zero ("0") if there is no icon with index 500

myfile.dll,-32890

i don't even know what an negative index means
i assume it is this?:
-5 = FFFFB

The numeric value following the name of the binary file is the index of the icon in that binary file if zero or greater, or it is the icon resource identifier (ID) if negative.
