The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Timer or Winsock (WithEvents) inside a Class

Asked by saragani in Visual Basic Programming, WInsock

Hi... I'm trying to make a simple IRC client which will be able to connect to several networks, and reconenct when it gets disconnected.

I have made a forum with an array of timers and and array of winsock

I have defined a class: clsNetwork with parameters like server, network name port, winsock etc.

I then tell it that mWinsock = frmmain.winsock(ID)
(where ID is the number inside the array).

Since the mWinsock and the Timer were without any events then I wrote all the timer and winsock events at the frmMain which is not smart.

I then decided to create the timer and winsock inside the class to be WithEvents (so I can move the evets to the clsNetwork):

Public mNetworkName              As String
Public mWinsockID                As Long
Public WithEvents mConnection    As Winsock
Public mServer                   As String
Public mPort                     As Long
Public mChannels                 As Collection
Public WithEvents mTimer         As Timer

Now when I try to set the timer or the winsock then I get an error.

If I do:
mWinsock = frmMain.Winsock(mWinsockID )
Then I get error 91 (Object variable or with block variable not set)

If I try to do:
set mWinsock = frmMain.Winsock(mWinsockID )
(which is what I used before I added the Withevents)
Then I get error 495 (Object or class does not support the set of events)

So how do I set the timer or winsock inside the class so they will also be with events ??
(I'm sure that I'm missing something..._
