I don't think you can legally download visual studio for free.
As far as I know you'll have to buy the IDE.
I am also not sure that you still can buy this software

While you can't download visual basic 6.0 for free(legally), you can download Visual Basic 2005 express edition from Microsoft. There are also dozens of free basic compilers out there, although none are as simple to use as VB. Here are some links for you

AFAIK, you cannot download VB6 or any other VB for free, really.
you need to get a paid copy of it, as it is licensed software.
you might find cheaper "used" copies from other people, or "educational" versions if that applies to you, but not for free.
