The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

You should create a new Excel instance which defaults to being hidden:

   Dim oExcelApplication As Object
   Set oExcelApplication = CreateObject("Excel.Application")

Just keep the application invisible.

Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Visible = False
set xlWbk = xlApp.WorkBooks.Add

just to above code, to make sure it doesnt shows up add
oExcelApplication.Visible=False

When creating an Excel application object using the CreateObject function the application instance defaults to not visible. You don't need to set the Application.Visible property to False.

I have already use the following method. But when i generate the excel file the time (take some time because of a lot of data), i double click to open an existing excel files, there is also only one Excel.exe in process. You can see the workbook i am generating throught the window menu. Thanks.

That's a problem. Windows will always try and use an existing application instance when opening a workbook. The only thing I can think of - and it's a total hack - is to open a second Excel instance and make it visible but minimized if there are none open at the time you create the hidden instance to do your work.

I think that Kevin's explicit answer is worth keeping for the record, even if it is unwelcome to the questioner.
I therefore suggest PAQ with refund.

While I agree with the selection but I do not agree with the points refund. When an OP asks a question they are presenting the experts with a contract: answer my question and you get the points. The question may not be answered the way the OP likes or the answer may be "you can't do that", but if the question is answered then the solution should be selected and graded. A PAQ is warranted only when the OP posted a better solution themselves.

In this case the answer is that what is desired can't be accomplished. Windows will always use the Excel application instance already running if only one is running. The workaround is to open a second visible Excel application instance after the first hidden instance is created. The visible instance then becomes the default instance and will be used to open the workbook being opened manually. But even this workaround is potentially problematic under certain scenarios such as if the visible instance is closed and then another workbook is opened.
