I needto remove the carriage returns at the end of a string, I can remove all but the last can anyone help please?

Hi

I retrieve a string from an in file such as c:\windows\image.tiff but at the end I get square blocks which I think are carriage returns I have used the following to remove all but the last one

saved_filename = Trim$(Replace(Replace(saved_filename, vbLf, ""), vbCr, "")) 'remove unwanted carriage returns

Does anyone know how I can remove the rest to only have the complete string without unwanted characters

Try it once more and see does it work, or to be sure do the following...

Debug.Print Asc(Right$(saved_filename,1))
 
'First note the $ at the end of Replace, Replace returns a variant and Replace$ returns a string.'
'Its also not good practice to use mutliple replaces in one line so consider the following:'
 
saved_filename = Trim$(Replace$(saved_filename, vbCrLf, vbNullString)
saved_filename = Trim$(Replace$(saved_filename, vbLf, vbNullString) 
saved_filename = Trim$(Replace$(saved_filename, vbCr, vbNullString)

Thanks for that but I still get a string with one square block at the end of the filename before the final "
If I load the text into a text box and read it from there it works but i'd rather not have to load it into the app to get it to read. in the debug immediate window I get 13

Chr$(13) == vbCr so try this at the bottom again..

saved_filename = Trim$(Replace$(saved_filename, vbCr, vbNullString)

Ok I notice just before you set saved_filename = buffer you StripChr and assign it to datastring so I'm thinking save_Filename still contains null char. Try this...
