Conversion of char to datetime error

my program extracts a user's data from sql server, puts the value into a textbox and when i want to execute the insert query, it gives me an error

" The Conversion of char data type to a datetime datatype resulted in an out-of-range datetime value"

but the value in the textbox is a valid date... just couldn't insert the value in...
