Browse All TopicsI'm very surprised to learn that, using ODBC, one cannot read from an encrypted Excel file, even if you have the password. It doesn't make any sense. Is there a way around this??
This is the quote from MSDN:
If the Excel workbook is protected by a password, you cannot open it for data access, even by supplying the correct password with your connection string. If you try, you receive the following error message: "Could not decrypt file."

According to MSDN, there is now way around it, at least not when using ODBC.
ame:="C:\P ath\Filena me.xls", Password:="password")
What you could use though is to use the Excel.Application object, which allows you to open a password protected workbook....
Dim xlApp As New Excel.Application
Dim xlWB As Excel.Workbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(Filen
It will be a little slower, but will provide full access to the workbook.
