VB6 Error 429 - ActiveX component can't create object (MSWINSCK.OCX Winsock issue)

Hi Experts,

I have a project that references the Winsock control (MSWINSCK.OCX).

I use it in a class, via these statements:

   Public WithEvents Winsock1 As Winsock

   Set Winsock1 = New Winsock

It works on my development PC, but on a target PC it gives this error when the Set Winsock1 = New Winsock statement is executed:

Error 429 - ActiveX component can't create object

I have copied MSWINSCK.OCX to c:\windows\system32 on the target PC.

Have you tried registering it?

regsvr32 mswinsck.ocx

You may need to specify the paths.

While I don't know the specifics of mswinsck.ocx, you'll still get the error if there are any dependeny files (other DLLs or OCXs) missing and not registered as well.

If you are still having a problem after registering mswinsck.ocx, try using the "Package & Deployment Wizard" to create an install... it should include ALL dependencies.

I successfully registered it with regsvr32 - but still get the error.

I am working out how to provide an instance of the Winsock control on a form, as suggested by that article...
