Question

How can I list folder files? - Console app

Asked by: Dream_G

Dear Experts,

I want to list the .txt files on a specific folder, so for example there is a folder in the path:
c:/test/
and it contain three files : 1.txt, cmd.exe, 2.txt

The idea works like this, set specific path c:/test/ and just list the txt files so the output will be like this:
1.txt
2.txt

Waiting for help from experts, thanks in advance.

Regards.

Check this example using the Dir method

http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=244915

Private Sub ListFiles(strPath As String, Optional Extention As String)
    Dim File As String

    If Right$(strPath, 1) <> "\" Then strPath = strPath & "\"

    If Trim$(Extention) = "" Then
        Extention = "*.*"
    ElseIf Left$(Extention, 2) <> "*." Then
        Extention = "*." & Extention
    End If

    File = Dir$(strPath & Extention)
    Do While Len(File)
        Debug.Print File
        File = Dir$
    Loop
End Sub

Sub go()
    ListFiles "C:\", "*"
End Sub

You can use DirectoryInfo and FileInfo.

Imports System.IO

Public Class Form1

    Public Sub ListFiles(ByVal szDirectory As String, ByVal szExtension As String)

        Dim DirInfo As New IO.DirectoryInfo(szDirectory)
        Dim FileInfo As IO.FileInfo() = DirInfo.GetFiles(szExtension)
        Dim fInfo As FileInfo

        For Each fInfo In FileInfo
            Console.WriteLine(fInfo.Name)
        Next

    End Sub

    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
        ListFiles("c:\windows", "*txt")

    End Sub

End Class

Here's another version in .NET

        For Each file As String In IO.Directory.GetFiles("c:\", "*.*")
            Console.WriteLine(IO.Path.GetFileName(file))
        Next
