Question

Does ComponentOne Winforms work in Vb Express 2008

Asked by: charlieb01

Hi,
I have installed ComponentOne Winforms on my machine with Visual Basic Express 2008 but I can't seem to add the ComponentOne tools to the toolbox. They are not listed as a choice. So, is there something special I need to do or does ComponentOne not work with the Express edition?

Thanks,
Charlie

What is the version of the controls?

by: charlieb01Posted on 2009-06-06 at 07:15:07ID: 24563108

It is ComponentOne Winforms   -  I think it is version 2009

This is the name of the installer package I downloaded:

C1StudioNET2_T109_Setup.msi

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi,
looks like you have the right package.

Can you add a reference to any ComponentOne assembly on a project?
I believe that all ComponentOne assemblies start with C1.*.dll

Also recheck if it's really installed... check on you Control Panel->Add and Remove Programs and on your c:\Program Files folder.

A side note...
if you're planning to use this controls... don't! :)
They most certainly are the worst set of controls I've ever had to work with.
C1 support is also.. let say... not good.
I work with C1 right at the beginning on VS2002 and more recently I won them for free from a contest on a site... I tried them expecting they had evolve since 2002 but nah... same buggy thing...

On the other hand, the best Windows Forms controls set I've ever worked with are from DevExpress.
If you can, give them a try.
The controls are top notch and the support is great.

Cheers mate,
Alex

Alex,

Can you give me an idea of which package from DevExpress you would recommend. The two main things I am looking for is a better grid, one that can be fully formatted, especially the column headers. I usually have long names fo rthe column headers and need something that can wrap the text in the col. header.

The other thing I need is something that can automatically draw graphs, that is, show trending of data as it stored into a database tabe every 5 seconds.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi mate,I use DXperience Enterprise.Their windows form grid does what you need.On the edge you can always override the way they draw the header and umplement your own way...it's fully customizable.

Their graphics suite is also very good, give it a try!

For the best package for you maybe it wold be best to directly contact their support...send them an email!

To buy any control make sure to check
www.componentsource.com
Usually you get it with a discount.

Cheers!
Alex
