The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ANY API TO CLOSE ALL FILE HANDLES AT END OF THE APPLICATION?

Asked by DreamingEagle in VB Database Programming

Tags: sx_closeall, all, file, close

I am writing a stock market game which uses the Artemis 5.0 SDE by Vista Software (formerly a Luxent product, I believe).  The files are very large .DBF files using Foxpro .CDX indexes.  The problem is that when running the app from VB, when I exit the program and return to VB the Break and End buttons are still active and the Run button disabled---as though the app is still running, although it is not.  The Artemis command to close all files and indexes is sx_closeall, which is in the unload event of the main form.  I am certain it is getting executed.   Also, if one of the .DBFs was last open in exclusive mode, it remains locked even after the app closes with sx_close all as the last coded command.  I know it It retains the file lock, because you cannot delete the file or move it using Explorer with restarting the PC.  Artemis can open the file again when you run the app again, but Artemis does not seem to be properly dealing with its file handling issues.

Is there any Windows API I can use to close the files at the end of the app myself?  Vista is no longer selling or supporting Artemis, but I have too much time invested in the product to change the back-end at this stage of the game...
