How do I retrieve SQL Server records from behind a Firewall?

Dear Expert(s),

I have written a little VB program that uses ADO to get records from a SQL Server that is on the Internet. It works perfect, unless I run the program on a company network that has firewalls and/or proxies installed. In that case I am unable to connect to the SQL Server.

And since I am unable to change anything about the network settings, I am looking for a solution that will get me a connection to SQL Server no matter how the network is secured.

I've been looking at "URL Access" and "SQLXML" a bit, but cannot find a very simple "real life" sample on how to pull this off.

And another thing: I also have no control over the SQL Server database, as it's hosted by discountasp.net (but I read on their site that they have SQLXML enabled).

Can anyone post a simple code sample on how to always be able to fetch a SQL Server recordset?? (if it is at all possible of course...)
