The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

VB6 API MessageBox Requiring "GetMessage" & "PostMessage"

Asked by servodude in VB Objects, Visual Basic Programming, Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Tags: , ,

1)  I have a VB6 program that opens up, writes data to, and then closes an Excel spreadsheet.

2)  There will only be one Excel file name ever used, & this file will be overwritten all of the time with new data.

3)  At the end of the save procedure an Excel message box appears telling me; "A file named 'xxxx.xxx' already exists in this location.  Do you want to replace it?  [Y] [N] [C]

My boss has now come up with the BRILLIANT idea (because he thinks our users are too damn stupid to understand the question) that because there is only one file name ever used, that he DOES NOT want the Excel message box to appear asking if the user wants to overwrite the file.

I realize there is no way to suppress Excel from asking this question, so I am speculating that the answer will require code that automatically answers [Y] to the posted message box.

I know this will require getting the hWnd of the message box and then posting a reply to that message.  I have looked at dozens of examples but none quite do what I need (probably because no other boss is so stinking stupid).

If anyone has an idea of how to attack this problem I would greatly appreciate your input.

I am assigning 500 points because I know this is not a simple question.

Thanks to everyone for helping.

Best regards,

servodude
