this program runs at the end of a bat that maps network drives at user login.
the program, written in VB, stored all the data to SQL.
I need a more efficent method for doing this as the program doesn't always store the data (I think the network hasn't fully established on the machine or something. The program will run and for some users it will not record the info.
All I need is something that takes the machine name, user name and login time and stores it. even if it is just polling AD, that would be wonderful. Does any of this make sense?
So instead of a script or program that runs on the local machine, I would like to just poll AD when I need this info, how do I get VB to pull AD info?

You'll want something like this. Just call the function with the LDAP path of the user/computer and it'll get you the last login stamp. You'll just need to modify it to loop through an OU, get the ADsPath, and call that function:
