Dim objXMLDOM As New MSXML2.DOMDocument26
...
objXMLDOM.async = False
I get an error on the objXMLDOM.async statement: ActiveX component can't create object
I do have this reference checked:
- Microsoft XML, v6.0
Other references that are available, but not checked are:
- Microsoft XML, v3.0
- Microsoft XML, v4.0
- Microsoft XML, v5.0

The example you shown works for me. The error usually means it's not registered. However VB IDE can have wrong reference locations and the version might be pointing to the wrong location.
If windows vista you can try to run the VB IDE as administrator.(right click, Run as admin)
