Question

Makro Code for a Spreadsheet Function

Asked by: Mephisto666

Hello to all,
I have the following specific problem. I want the following working Excel Spreadsheet formula incorporated into a VBA makro code:
=INDEX('I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\[CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls]main'!$1:$65536,MATCH($D54,'I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\[CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls]main'!$D$2:$D$1324,FALSE)+MATCH($E54,'I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\[CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls]main'!$G$2:$G$5,FALSE),15)

I tried
Cells(58, 4).Value = Application.WorksheetFunction.Index(Workbooks("I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls"). _
                     Sheets("main").Range("A1:Z1000"), Application.WorksheetFunction.Match(Cells(54, 4), _
                     Workbooks("I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls").Worksheets("main").Range("D1:D1000"), _
                     False))

It doesn't work. It gives me the following error: Run-time error '9': Subscript out o range. I think it has sth to do with specifying the Range("*") or accessing the other workbook to index/match the data.

Thanks for your help. I guess it is just about getting the correct synthax.

Is the other workbook open?

by: Mephisto666Posted on 2007-09-25 at 05:23:32ID: 19955056

Hi,
no the other sheet is not open. At least I think so. Probably sb else has access to this file. I will copy the file to another place and try it again.
No it doesn't work. I guess it has sth to do with Workbooks("I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls"). It does seem that VBA doesn't accept this c:\ reference.

You cannot use this syntax to refer to a closed workbook in VBA:
Workbooks("I:\CDS_Bewertungskurse\CDS_BewertungsKurse.xls")

Why do you need this in VBA anyway, if I may ask?

Do you know any synthax that works? It would help me soooo much :).

I need this code since I want to match values in one sheet with another sheet that are not equal but similar . So I later need to write a function IsLike.Sub IsLike()

   Dim dValue As Double
   Dim sTxt As String, sEuro As String, sLike As String
   dValue = 23.21
   sEuro = "Miauu"
   sLike = "*" & sEuro & "*"
   sTxt = Range("B11").Value
   If sTxt Like sLike Then
   MsgBox "Im String enthalten!"
  Else
  MsgBox "Nicht im String enthalten!"
 End If
End Sub
------------------------
VBA is such a stupid language...you spend hours and hours searching for damn synthax problems for things which are so obvious and logically easy. I am enjoying myself much more when all data are in excel and I can just put them into R-project for intersting analysis.

You would have to have your code open the workbook, or stick with the formula you already have.

Rory

Thx for your help. I will stick with the code I have and try to get the identifiers to be the same. I guess that's easier. I don't want to open the source excel file since it's really big and not very stable. Moreover I would need to extract only the first sheet without the makros, put it somewhere else, make my match/index staff, delete the sheet and do everything without screen updating. This is an incredible bug in excel vba.....

You saved me a lot of time trying and trying again to change some stupid synthax.
