Hi,

I receive mails from my Antivirus console.To my mailbox on the server.Every day i et 100's of them.Is there a way i can get a summary according to subject.
Like if it says

If the Subject lines are that clearly worded you can use View > Arrange By > "Show in Groups" and then click the "Subject" column header and [+]/[-] collapse the views of e-mails grouped by Subject.  Has this been tried already?

Also, using the (envelope) "Mail" view versus the (folder icon) "Folder List" view will allow you to have the 'Favorite Folders' in the upper-left corner of the main window and see an "Unread mail" count.   Favorites Folders could include a count of unread mails by subfolder names if, for example, a few were created and some rules setup to sort the incoming e-mails into them by Subject line.

I use this method to track incoming & sorted messages using Favorite Folder view.  Add folders created below "Mailbox - (lastname, firstname)" via use of a right-click on the new folder(s).

If this is not quite what you wanted, I have some thoughts on other approaches, but will leave with this first built-in features approach before purposing any additional alternatives.

Hi, bsharath.

Try this.

Sub CountMessages()
    'Change the file name and path as desired.
    Const HTML_FILE = "C:\Subject Counts.html"
    Dim olkFolder As Outlook.MAPIFolder, _
        olkItem As Object, _
        dicItems As Object, _
        arrSubjects As Variant, _
        arrCounts As Variant, _
        objFSO As Object, _
        objFile As Object, _
        strBuffer As String, _
        objIE As Object
    Set olkFolder = Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder
    Set dicItems = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
    For Each olkItem In olkFolder.Items
        If dicItems.Exists(olkItem.Subject) Then
            dicItems.Item(olkItem.Subject) = dicItems.Item(olkItem.Subject) + 1
        Else
            dicItems.Add olkItem.Subject, 1
        End If
    Next
    Set olkItem = Nothing
    Set olkFolder = Nothing
    arrSubjects = dicItems.Keys()
    arrCounts = dicItems.Items()
    For intIndex = LBound(arrSubjects) To UBound(arrSubjects)
        strBuffer = strBuffer & "  <tr><td>" & arrSubjects(intIndex) & "</td><td>" & arrCounts(intIndex) & "</td></tr>" & vbCrLf
    Next
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile(HTML_FILE)
    objFile.WriteLine "<table>"
    objFile.WriteLine strBuffer
    objFile.WriteLine "</table>"
    objFile.Close
    Set objFile = Nothing
    Set objFSO = Nothing
    Set objIE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
    objIE.Navigate2 "file:\\" & HTML_FILE
    Do Until objIE.readyState = 4
        DoEvents
    Loop
    objIE.Visible = True
    Set objIE = Nothing
End Sub

I have a pst attached to my outlook.
So i want the macro to get the subject count of all mails inside the inbox and should be able to change the path from mailbox to any other folder.

Inbox
          Folder1

Or even be able to get the count of

Server Mailbox
     Inbox
           Folder1

Any of these ways i need to get the count.

Bluedevilfan.
Can you tell me what i need to change in this macro to get the count as per name.I mean sender name and Date.

SO when i run the Macro i need to get per User count and Date count.
How many mails i received in that date

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2007-11-14 at 08:08:03ID: 20281018

Glad it worked for you.

To get a count by sender, change all occurrences of
    olkItem.Subject
to
    olkItem.SenderName

To get a count by date received, change all occurences of
    olkItem.Subject
to
    Format(olkItem.ReceivedTime,"yyyymmdd")
