Question

Can anyone help me import contacts into AD from an Excel spreadsheet?

Asked by: turnkeysol

I'm trying to import contacts into AD from an Excel spreadsheet. This is the vbscript I'm trying to use...Could anyone tell me why it's not working? When I run it I don't get any errors, and the contacts do not show up in the OU specified.

it's easier than troubleshooting code

I'm trying to make this easier for an end user so they can just modify the spreadsheet on the fly and re-run the script so they can manage their own contacts.  I tried that method as well, but it will be more confusing to the end user.....Thanks though.

Other than an error with the code on line 23 I don't see a problem with the code. You could do a better job with connecting to the domain though. Can you show us an example of the data that you're trying to insert into AD via the spreadsheet? I had to assume that you were using valid data types for each insert that you were attempting.

Hi, the code looks fine.  Just make sure that your data starts at row 3 and you don't have any blank lines in column A until it is finished.

The only other thing I would add is to put this:
Set objContact = Nothing

after this line
objContact.SetInfo

You should be getting a contact or two in your domain.com/Contacts OU.

Regards,

Rob.

The reason I say line 23 will throw an error is because a blank cell will never equal "". But, as long as the data in the spreadsheet is good you should be getting contacts.........

So am I understanding that I can't have any blank cells in any columns?

by: RobSampsonPosted on 2008-03-12 at 15:43:16ID: 21111573

Hi, you can have blank cells....I've change that Do Until loop from
Do Until (objExcel.Cells(intRow,1).Value) = ""
...
Loop

to
For intRow = 2 To objExcel.Cells(65536, "A").End(xlUp).Row
....
Next

to make it a bit easier....I have also fixed up a couple of other things.  I don't have Exchange so I couldn't test the last four attributes, but see how you go.

I have also attached a sample file that you should follow the syntax of.

Regards,

Rob.
