Question

script to push file to multiple machines

I have a list of ip address of machines that I need to push a file to.

The machines aren't on my domain so I'll have to use a different username and password to the one I'm logged in as

I've got this script which I've made from other posts on here, but it gives me an error...

InputFile = "C:\Documents and Settings\luckg\Desktop\Software\pstools\backofficeips1.txt"

strFileName = "C:\Documents and Settings\luckg\Desktop\Software\pstools\NoAutorun.vbs"
strUser = "till"
StrPassword = "xxxx"

You used "Set objFSO="  twice.  You don't need the second one.  Also, is the computer name in your file contained in double-quotes.  For instance in your computer file is it like:

"Computername"

or

Computername

If it is NOT in double quotes that is your problem.  Try again with the computername in double-quotes as a test, on one machine.

@sirbounty - I would assume that the problem was the computer names wasn't in double-quotes in the inputfile and not the execution of the copy itself.  I may be wrong but it is my assumption.

And without the double-quotes on the machine name in the inputfile, the line

objFSO.CopyFile strFileName, "\\" & strComputer & "\C$\"

would not work correctly.

as Jeff asaid - it was the issue with the computer names not being in quotes

@wildminduk - you could try this change to your script.  Not sure if it would work or not but you can try which may not require making your computer names strings.

Change

strComputer = objFile.ReadLine

to

strComputer = Cstr(objFile.ReadLine)

thanks for that, it works when I have one IP address in the Input file, but not when I have more e.g.

10.1.216.2 works

10.2.65.2
10.1.81.2
10.6.5.2   will not work....

Maybe 10.6.5.2 isn't responding.  you could add a ping test to see if the machine is responding before attempting to copy the file to it.
