Application performance degrading with time

We are facing some serious performance issue at work. We use some proprietary language, which is high-level interface of C, for developing our applications. The application is database extensive. Now the problem we are facing is that over a period of time, the application performance degrades. In other words, the time required for data retrieval, insertion and updating becomes slower and slower with time. We are not sure if there is any memory leakage, as the proprietary language handles memory allocation/de-allocation. There are functions to create recordsets in memory and to drop them. And we use these recordsets extensively. We are watching the memory usage in Windows Task Manager and it does not show any considerable increase with time.

When the application becomes very slow, we close it and start again and it works fast. But again slowly becomes slower with time. So every alternate day, we have to manually restart the application to keep it running with fair speed.

Are we missing something? What can be the problem? How can we reach to the root of the problem?
