The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need C++ program translated to VB.NET.

Asked by Xexon in Miscellaneous Programming

Tags: code, command, cstring

Hey Everyone,  I am trying to translate the following program into VB.NET, but I have not experience with C++ at all.  I really need this done fairly quickly so can someone translate this for me?  The urgency of the issue makes this issue worth 500 points.

Thanks in Advance!:)

/*
This is a sample of what an exe that will be called by Create!stream server should look like.
This is the minimum set of code that will be needed. All this exe does is to return a string
"Result put by TestExe1.exe is " + csUserString where csUserString is the string passed by
Create!stream.
*/

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <fstream.h>

int APIENTRY WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance,
                     HINSTANCE hPrevInstance,
                     LPSTR     lpCmdLine,
                     int       nCmdShow)
{

      CString csTest(lpCmdLine);      //parameter. Will be something like "path\temp_result_filename.res"user_var
      CString csFileName;                  //Filename extracted from the above
      CString csUserString;            //User string extracted from lpCmdLine

      //COMPULSARY CODE SEGMENT
      /*
            Create!stream server generates a temporary filename that it will use to read the resulting value,
            prepends it to the user string (which maybe a result of a expression) and passes it as a parameter
            to this exe. The compulsary section which you must have should separate the filename and the
            user string as depicted below.
    */

      // Extract the ouput file name from the command line, as specified and required by stream.
      int nSplitPoint = csTest.Find(".") + 4;
      // Copy everything to the left of nSplitPoint
      csFileName = csTest.Left(nSplitPoint);
      // Trim the left-quote to get the final name for the output file.
      csFileName.TrimLeft("\"");

      // Now get the user parameters
      csUserString      = csTest.Right(csTest.GetLength() - (nSplitPoint+2));
      // ( We have to add 2 to take care or the right-quote and the left-quote )
      //csUserString is second parameter of the "external( .., ...) funtion as specified by the user in stream.

      //END OF COMPULSARY CODE SEGMENT

      //USER CODE SEGMENT
      //You can do whatever you want with csUserString to create the csOutString.
      CString csOutString = "I am going to return this to stream.";
      //Note that anything after a '\n' '\r' '\0' etc in csOutString will be ignored by stream.
      //END OF USER CODE SEGMENT

      //COMPULSARY CODE SEGMENT
      //Open file and put resulting string in.
      ofstream outFile(csFileName, ios::out);
      outFile << csOutString << endl;
      outFile.close();
      return 0;
      //END OF COMPULSARY CODE SEGMENT
}
