asked on

bring back my file tab in UltraEdit

Hi,

       For some reason, I lost my "Open File Tabs" for my UltradEdt. Even I select under "View -> Views/Lists -> Open File Tabs". I still don't see it.

       Help me ...

I suspect you've inadvertantly moved it out of the way.

Look for a small X in a box button above a double vertical separator bar.  Drag the double bar and see if you open file tabs don't come back.

    What is this? I didn't see it.
I just started using UltraEdit myself several weeks ago and encountered the same problem you mentioned above.

During my fit of fiddling with everything, I noticed the above describe button all the way to the right of the tool bar after I deleted about 17 million unused icons from the tool bar.  Upon dragging the separator under the little x-box to the left, I discovered my open window tabs.

I do note that You can drag the tab bar anywhere and UltraEdit will try to dock it someplace meaningful, but if you drag it, say, down to the System Tray (among other places), the tab bar will disappear behind the tray.

I got it back by unlocking the task bar, disabling the task bar always on top, then bringing UltraEdit to the foreground, thereby making the tab list visible down around the system tray.  After docking it back to the tool bar, it's (i.e., I've) behaved ever since.

Oh, and the x in a box thing looked like:

      X
     | |

with a box around the X, i.e., it's a close button.

The whole thing, when visible, is the height of the tool bar.
How does Ultraedit remember where all locations tool bars are? Is there any file or sth like that so I can delete it and let UltraEdit reset it to its default.
I did let toolbar float but nothing behind. This is so odd.
Since there's no indicator on the View Open Files Tabs option, I'd:

resize UE to half a screen, minimize everything, disable the TaskBar Always On Top option, unlock the task bar and move it to, say, the right hand side of the screen, then restore UE (but not maximized).

If the Open Files Tabs bar doesn't show up, re-select its View option, then go through all of the above again.
I did what you instructed, still no good.

As I said, how windows remember all tab positions? Is that possible I can reset that data somewhere?

Thanks for your reply.
That was all I could think of.

What I'd do next is contact the UIltraEdit folks and post a question in their Display forum:
http://www.ultraedit.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=3

P.S.:  Windows doesn't remember that sort of thing.  That's normally done by applications.

     How? I did some windows programming I didn't remember any steps to do this. How does an app handle this?
I did some snooping.
Look at:
\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\IDM Comp\UltraEdit\uedit32.ini

then find:

[ToolBarState1-v110-Bar6]
BarID=143
Visible=0
XPos=148
YPos=-2
Docking=1
MRUDockID=59419
MRUDockLeftPos=148
MRUDockTopPos=-2
MRUDockRightPos=1282
MRUDockBottomPos=38
MRUFloatStyle=8192
MRUFloatXPos=1014
MRUFloatYPos=981

That's the configuration for Open File Tabs (at least on my box)
Visible=0 turns them off
Not having visible=0 turns them on.

The rest, except for BarID, is clearly size and positioning info.

If you have this section, you could probably fiddle with the values to get things back to normal.

To see what changes on your box, save the file, make a configuration change, then look fior differences in the ini file.
