Web Service with Database handling

Dear Experts,

I am subburaman.
We are developing Web Portal and it is to integrate with ERP(Navision)
We are to create a web service to manpulate Data (Delete, Insert,Update,Select ) using C#.
That may going to use by the ERP Team(Navision). Similarly they are to create web service that going to handle by Web Portal team to manipulate data.
Since it is web portal we need to handle with bulk of data.

1)What is best approach to handle the data using web service?
   i.DataSet ?
   2.XML  Document ?
   3.Sql /Store procedure -- If is from single table then it will be ok. but if it is going to update and insert bulk of data ( Maseter and detail ) then what is is best way?
 


2)Transcation Management
   We need to maintan transaction using Web service?
   We may expect to maintrain transcation across the database ( Web Portal DB , Navision DB).
   Due to load both will be in seprate location ( phlysically)
What  is the best approach

  1.WebMethod - Transction attriute -- it is for single method only
  2.EnterpriceService -- It may not affect Other machine db
  3.WS-AutomicTransacation --  How it use this ?
3.Security
What kind of security we can provide for web service for our approach?
1.Base Authenticaion -- Form ( User name and password)
2. WSE 3.0  -- HOw to we can adopt thi
