Calculating the first day of the financial year

I'm trying to do this in Crystal Reports XI R2 but it's the logic which is frustrating me (the language i can handle).

Our financial year starts on the first monday of October.

Local DateVar FirstDay;
FirstDay := OneOct + ((8 - DayOfWeek(OneOct,crMonday)) mod 7);

Slightly nicer than what i had before (used a loop) but how do you easily determine whether the first day of the financial year occurred this year or last year? :)

So what you really need is given a date in a record you need to determine the Fiscal Year.

Try this for FY
WhilePrintingRecords;
If Month({dateField}) IN [1 to 9] then
    Year({dateField})
else If Month({dateField}) IN [11 to 12] then
    Year({dateField}) + 1
else if {dateField}>= {@FirstDayofOctober} then
    Year({dateField}) + 1
else
    Year({dateField})

Change the other formula to
WhilePrintingRecords;
Local DateVar OneOct := Date(Year({dateField}),10,1);
Local DateVar FirstDay;
FirstDay := OneOct + ((8 - DayOfWeek(OneOct,crMonday)) mod 7)

Still a little bit nasty, but i think you've given me what i need- does this look right?

We assume the first day of the financial year occurs the same year as {dateField} but if it returns a value greater than {dateField} we recalculate now knowing it occurs a year earlier?

local numberVar financialYear;
local dateVar firstDay;
local dateVar oneOct :=  Date(Year({dateField}),10,1);
 
firstDay := oneOct + ((8 - DayOfWeek(oneOct,crMonday)) mod 7)
 
if firstDay > {dateField} then 
(
 oneOct :=  Date(Year({dateField})-1,10,1);
 firstDay := oneOct + ((8 - DayOfWeek(oneOct,crMonday)) mod 7)
)
 
firstDay;
