I have been trying to come up with a way so that i can record some audio clips from some sites and some movies.But so far i have not been able to and that's why i need your help with, i have thought about spending some money and buying software for recording audio and video so that i can record both video and audio. i have install the add on for Firefox but that's not what i want .. i want to be able to record anything at anytime that i want .. any suggestions ..

For just audio you can use Audacity, but the trick is to set up your soundcard in the record section to "stereo mix".
For video + audio try Replay Video Capture:

Using the aforementioned "Stereo Mix" recording source in your soundcard recording settings, the best free audio solution by far is Audacity (http://audacity.sourcefor
There are only really two "formats" to choose from to store the audio:
Lossy:
either
MP3 using free Lame codec (http://www.rarewares.org/
or
OGG totally open source but less supported equivalent (http://www.rarewares.org/
Lossless:
FLAC : http://flac.sourceforge.ne
For recommended settings for the lossy codecs, I would recommend www.hydrogenaudio.org.
If in doubt, 192kbits is a pretty safe bet.

There should be programs out there that records the audio as it goes out to your speakers. Most of the programs cost money. Here's a free one that i was able to find.
