The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Hi
I use Nero Vision so beg pardon as I had to google your ConvertXtodDvd never heard of it
here's a guide
Adding Subtitles
ConvertXtoDVD supports adding multiple .srt subtitle files. It's very easy to add subtitle streams, simply right click on Subtitles (0 streams) and click Add Subtitle Channel.
A file browser window will now appear which you can use to locate your subs.

And to offer the best for you a visual guide in video

hope this helps you

I have read this site before and gone through the process again and again and instead of getting normal subtitles in the language I want I get strange characters.

Do you have the languages pack installed on your system?
Is this an english XP?
DVD subtitles are bitmaps, therefor you can't change the font, etc.
Could be some strange font association with the program?
Is the SRT file good?
Have you played the DVD using either subs
Maybe this program doesnt insert the SRT correctly, or your missing something in the video editing process?
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VobSub

one way I can think of is to test the SRT is ok install media player classic it supports DVD QT flash sub titles heaps anway
put the srt in with your movie same folder.
open media player classic and adjust a couple of settings so that it accepts sub titles.
View -> Options -> Playback -> Output -> DirectShow Video -> VMR7(renderless) or VMR9(renderless). Then when you play the file go to Navigate -> Subtitle Language.
There is these next to each>>**
choose the **

open your movie then open file> subtitles database.

Then we know if it is the SRT or the language fonts?

hmm that looks like a signature in greek or a video scamantics if this movie was a screener only not for market yet
Where did you get the movie?

intersection = cap ∩ ∩ ∩ ) ) )
Greek capital letter theta Θ Θ Θ ˜ ˜ ˜
Greek capital letter lambda Λ Λ Λ › › ›
http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1F00.pdf

I'm somewhat handicapped here since I have never used this
ConvertXtoDVD

changed the name of the file so its the same of the movie<< changing the name of the SRT is not a good idea, if th SRT matches this movie it works and shoudl have the same name

What's the name of this movie?

I open languges in regional settings in control panel and I see greek. Is that enough?<< yes..
So the subs you downloaded dont run?
Have you setup media player classic to support the subs as per my screener
in media player classic once you load the movie into the play list before playing it, go to file subtitle>upload navigate to your greek subs
then play your movie
maybe it can assist you, don't change the name okay
How to add subtitles to your DVD?

Nice it works but not with this movie. I downloaded another movie with its subtitles and it works...so the problem was on the movie subs right??? .....but subtitles are cut off on the left and right of my tv. Another disc destroyed :(. They looked fine on the computer screen.

02.26.2008 at 09:55AM PST, ID: 20986848
Sorry but it seems it doesn't work again. Ok when I load the avi file to media player and then load the subtitles it works but when I convert the avi to dvd with convertXtoDvd and add the subtiltes i get this strange chars again.
I downloaded nero vision2  but its a program for creating movies right? looks like movie maker. Does it convert avi to dvd too?

hmm
sounds like it is hard encoding the srt over the original srt, hard coding is burning them imbedded in the video you can't switch them off.

I can't actually answer if NERO Vision express 2  supports and will convert it to DVD with srt as I have never added SRT in to an avi for DVD.
Also I have Nero Vision 4
but yes I believe so though.
I just ran a mock test using an avi with nero vision4 and yes it does, I don't know how to add SRT with nero vision though I don't have any here.
You should be able to use just Nero burning rom.
SOURCED>>
Nero should do the trick. Just be SURE that the video file & the SRT subtitle file have **exactly** the same base name, capitalized exactly the same, and in the same folder [good to keep everything else out of this folder as well.]
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/275679

There is a tool called avi2DVD which will convert it to this same Video_ts folder and burn to DVD
including the srt.

Hi,
I think the problem is the imbedded subs is in this AVI.
Picture this,
your playing a video with sub titles from a " DVD "<< DVD..
understanding the makeup of the DVD is Vobs IFO Bup files these include  the scripts of the sub titles for all other languages supplied with the DVD Vobs/ifo/bup.
this information is needed to play using subs or not change the language etc.

2:
you decide to capture this while playing the DVD  and save an avi....<< Note avi..
end results is a video displaying the sub titles ..AVI with subs

This avi does not actually contain the subs in the properties  but rather is just a video with subs. Perminent.

If you Convert this avi back to mpeg2 and add new subs for a new DVD it will keep the original captured frames of the subs, and will play beneath the new subs you added.
there is noway round this unless you can capture this video and blockout the current imbedded subs playing.
Not possible,
as I see it your only choice is to get a hold of this movie in DVD format mpeg2 then you can add the new subs and it will detect the new .

hi again,
i converted the avi to mpeg2 and I can't load it to avi2dvd program since it supports only avi/ogm/mkv/wmv. I can't also preview the movie with any of the programs i have....powerdvd, divxplayer, mediaplayer

Hi agan gsazeides, did you understand my previous comment you will not be able to remove these sub titles at all in this avi?
You need the original DVD without any subs.

For the mpeg2.
Try using VLC or media player classic to play them. mpeg2 is another form of DVD vobs
What did you use to convert the avi to mpeg2?

03.02.2008 at 09:52PM PST, ID: 21029242
Sorry but maybe I explained wrong..the avi doesn't have the greek subtitles i want. I have it separate in a srt file and when I load them i get the wrong chars. I also used media player classic to play the movie but it doesnt play. The initial play looks green. I used ImTOO 3GP Converter

>>> Now, the movie has already spanish subtitles << now lets not waste my time  explaining what you should know please, you mention it already has spanish subtitles
 and this is an AVI,
then those spanish subs are imbeded and will always be on top or under or over any new subs you add>> The new greek subtitles
Try playing it again.
Media Player Classic. Go to View/Options/Subtitles--Default Style. Here change the font to any Greek font and the character(default is ANSI) to Greek(161).Now you should be able to see the subs correctly.

 gsazeides,
Just some points you may have to consider, the greek  subtitles are they from a DVD? <<<<
You have an avi? <<It will not match
Is the audio in this avi AC3? in the avi?

used ImTOO 3GP Converter, that's no good  you dont want to use 3GP formats.
please delete that 3gp mpeg as it's format is for camera.
Convert AVI to 3GP or MPEG videos to 3GP, ready for your 3G phone

try again.

Merete thanks for explaining. Yes the spanish subs are already embedded in the movie i didn^t know that this doesn´t let me put the subs i want. It puts them over the spanish, which is perfect, they are just wrong greek letters.
I don^t know where the subs are from e.g. dvd. and also i don^t know about the audio too..
I will install again convertXtoDvd and try again and with other movies..
