The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Mod Toshiba BIOS - not for the amateur!

Asked by Netman66 in Processor Programming for Specific Platforms, Miscellaneous Programming, Theory

I purchased a Toshiba A350 laptop before the holidays as my old one finally bit the dust.  I did quite a bit of research before taking the plunge - but I apparently overlooked something I really could use.

The model laptop I have is A350-00X (PSAL6C-00X015)

http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=1&product=8970&part=8811#spectop

This laptop is 64 bit and capable of 8GB of RAM.  I run a lot of Virtual Machines for testing and assisting others and wanted to finally be able to run 64-bit guests (something I couldn't do before).

Well...I didn't read things carefully enough.  Although everything I can find tells me this laptop should support Intel VT technology, Toshiba in their infinite wisdom (and masked BIOS) have chosen NOT to provide any way to turn on VT.  Why would anyone buy this kind of power and NOT run Virtualization on it??  What are they thinking about?

Anyway....I've been researching BIOS mods to see if I can take the latest release (1.70) BIOS and open it up to enable the VMX bits so that I have working 64-bit guest support.

If anyone here can help me successfully enable the VMX bits (preferably by giving me an entry in the BIOS screens to toggle it on or off) I will personally donate a full, legal, sealed version of Vista Ultimate to them.

I need this to be done without bricking my box.

Any takers??
