Ghost 2003 and Maxtor USB 80gb drive-drivers downloaded but how do you configure them?

OK, I have found the drivers on the Symantec web site

(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ghost.nsf/8f7dc138830563c888256c2200662ecd/ac128ae3b3da90fa88256cb0005f2a85?OpenDocument&prod=&ver=&src=sg&pcode=&svy=&csm=no)

that should work with my Maxtor drive, only there is no reference as to how to load the drivers. I have tried to enter the drivers, ASIEHCI.SYS and ASPI1394.SYS in the config.sys section, like this:
Drivers
Additional files and directories (0 MB)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Ghost\Template\common\ASPI1394.SYS
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Ghost\Template\common\ASPIEHCI.SYS
Config.sys additions
[GHOST]
LASTDRIVE=Z
DEVICE = \USB\ASPIEHCI.SYS /int /all
DEVICE =\USB\ASPI1394.SYS /int /all

but it does not work. I know it can be done, so who can help me?

Hmmm....what OS are you using...?  the link you provided is for a windows OS based solution.
If you reread your link, it tells you exactly where to put the files and also calls for you to run a live update.
If you are trying to run ghost via dos or win98 dos boot disk or whatever dos bootdisk, you can't.  use the USB/firewire solution.

Again...re-read your link....

When you use Ghost, are you booting from a Ghost floppy?  It should work then (change the paths to reflect a floppy).

Yes, I have the latest version from Live Update to my W2K SP4 system and have overwritten the files at the exact location.

Not quit sure what Callandor means-I just reboot from the Windows menu-I don't have a floppy on the machine at the moment, but I can. Is the syntax of the config.sys ok? Can I set the drivers through the boot wizard?

The only way I have used Ghost is by booting from a floppy - I am usually backing up my boot system.  I have used Ghost 2002 with a USB WD 120GB drive, and the one tricky requirement was that I needed to make the floppy using MS-DOS 7.1, as opposed to PC-DOS.  The config file with the ASPIEHCI.SYS driver worked fine.

What operating system are you using?  Are you able to see your USB drive when you boot?
Using Windows 2000 SP4. It never gets that faras to showing me the USB drive, failing before I get the Ghost screen. I guess I will have to try booting from a floppy,although I am sure it can be done the 'normal' way.
You can take out the ASPI1394.SYS file, that's for IEEE-1394 connections only (Firewire/i.Link, etc)

I haven't used Ghost 2003 yet, but when you run through the wizard, does it just dynamically restart the system and start booting in a DOS environment to launch Ghost (I've seen "floppyless" BIOS updates that do this, then the system restarts normally into 2K/XP)?  Try checking your system BIOS for an option "Assign IRQ to USB"

Can you be more specific than "but it does not work." as to what happens when you attempt to Ghost your system?

The Ghost wizard can make a boot disk for you with those drivers in it.

Look under Ghost utilities  --> Norton Ghost Boot wizard

You can boot from the floppy and hopefully your USB drive will be mounted.

The drivers are placed on the floppy disk and referenced there through the CONFIG.SYS file.

If the drivers don't work then see

http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm

Also consider

I use this method myself.

I have tried all the above. The driver cannot find the device. The only thing that I have not tried is to connect the Maxtor to the laptop's USB 1.1 port, as it is running through a USB 2.0 (1.1 compatible) PCMCIA card. But why should this have any effect?
You might want to try anyway....maybe there is something wrong with your USB2.0 ports?
I now have Ghost2003, and it can't see my drive through the USB2.0 port, either.
I think I found the answer here on the Norton Ghost USB troubleshooter page:

"The Norton Ghost USB drivers do not work with the USB PCMCIA add-on cards."

I will try wit the on-board USB
AHh...well you didn't specify until now that you were using a laptop with PC card USB...
There's your problem, obviously which was documented in my link above.  It should work (though at reduced speed) via the onboard USB controller (I wouldn't run it through a hub, connect it directly).
