java applet error running our Internet Explorer 5.5

When running a particular webpage w/ java applet on Netscape on a Windows 2000, the applet runs fine.

however, when run on IE 5.5 on same machine, get error:
   java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:    netscape/security/PrivilegeManager: method getPrivilegeManager()Lnetscape/security/PrivilegeManager; not found

You need to either check if it's available or catch and ignore this error on IE.
