Upgrade from PB 6.5 to PB 9
Hi All
We have a quite a large number of Applications that were built in Powerbuilder 6.5.We are planning to migrate all our applications into PB 9.0 .
1. Is it possible to upgrade the applications built in powerbuilder 6.5 to powerbuilder 9.0 with out to much of code chnages ?
2. Is there instructions on how to carry this out ?
3. What do we need to be careful of ?
Any relevent documentation , resources on the net which addesses the specifics would be appreciated .

Yes we have done mainly for powerbuilder 6 and powerbuilder 7 applications.
The only problem that occurs is because of us developers not heeding the warning that some of the functions are going to be obsolete.
As mentioned in the articles during migration itself you will get the errors /information which you can readily rectify.
There is no guarantee that its going to be an one step migration but by reading the error info during migration it shouldnt be more than a two - three round process.
All the best in your migration.
And yes do remmeber to use the latest build of Powerbuilder 9.01

well i have done migrations before but not that great an issues prompt , unless u decide to migrate pbls from ver. 5.0 to 9.0...
ver 6.5 to 9.0 should not be much of an issue and as i have stated in my earlier post any discrepancies arising are notified by PB itself as warnings or errors...
make a note of them and comment such errors... go ahead with ur migration but be sure to come back and write an alternative for the commented code,function etc.
no such hidden pitfalls that i've come across... its generally smooth and migrating these days is a regular activity...
so go ahead and give the good news of success....BUT ALWAYS TAKE A BACKUP OF UR OLD PBLS...

Thanks for your inputs. Have any of you done such a migration ?
Our main concern is whether there is any hidden pitfalls which is not mentioned by Sybase in their documentaion .
Was there any such issues that you guys faced while migrating ?
