MDAC Questions - do I Reeeeally need to include it in my install?

Ref - VB6, MDAC

I've read where MDAC is included with Windows Versions ME at later.  So I'm wondering...

1) Except in cases where a user has Windows 9x, do I really need to include an MDAC_TYP setup/subinstall in my program installation?

and

2) If the answer above is No, what happens when my program which is compiled against MDAC 2.7 is installed on a machine that only has MDAC 2.6, or 2.5, or so on it...

Thanks in advance

It depends on the version of mdac. Win2000 comes with MDAC 2.5 so I usually use it for compatability reasons. If you compile with MDAC 2.7 , you will need to install 2.7 on the machines you will use your app on. Im not sure what version comes with ME. It might be 2.1

Srimanth, you are right regarding that.  I wrote an application using 2.7 and tried to run it on a pc that had 2.6 installed and it did fail.  I could have sworn that worked before... hmmm...

Thanks guys.

I have MDAC all the way back to 2.0 .  App runs fine referencing this version so I've recompiled and will able to drop MDAC from the install.
