The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Bash: Split comma separated string into array

Tags: bash, split, string, array, comma
Hi all,

how can I spilt a comma separated string into an array. What I want to do is to extract all string
parameters of an function out of an C source code file. So One line could be e.g.:

void printSomeText("Hello", "bad", "world")

but it could also be

int val = getSomeValue("Hello", "World")

and something else.

The result should be something like

for s in $extractedStrings; do
    echo s
done

Result should be

"Hello"
"World", etc.

Please pay attention to the double quoted string. The echo command should
print the quotation marks, too.

Thanks in advance,

eltic

Can your C source code file contain C++ style //comments,
or just ANSI C /* comments */ ?

perl -0777 -ne '$1 && print "$1\n" while m#/\*[^*]*\*+(?:[^/*][^*]*\*+)*/|//[^\n]*|("(?:\\.|[^"\\])*")|'"'"'(\\.|[^'"'"'\\])*'"'"'|.[^/"'"'"'\\]*#gs;' source.c
if C++ comments are allowed
perl -0777 -ne '$1 && print "$1\n" while m#/\*[^*]*\*+(?:[^/*][^*]*\*+)*/|("(?:\\.|[^"\\])*")|'"'"'(\\.|[^'"'"'\\])*'"'"'|.[^/"'"'"'\\]*#gs;' source.c
if not

No need to look for comments because I filter them already.
All that I need is to split each string in a line so I can process each one in bash.

06.20.2005 at 01:52AM PDT, ID: 14255074

Shouldn't this work with some kind of awk command ?
Extract all strings in double quotation marks and put them into an array ?

string teststring = "hello", "bad", "world"

array[0] = "hello"
array[1] = "bad"
array[2] = "world"

How are you filtering comments?
If you're not using cc -E you must be already parsing strings to properly detect comments

06.20.2005 at 04:03AM PDT, ID: 14255626

It's not important how comments are filtered. It could be any other
file than a c sourcefile. A normal text file does it the same way.
It is just important to extract the line above to an array in bash.

    echo $s
