When we where running Office 2003 on our network (we are using Windows XP) I was able to remove the delete permission (under the advanced selection) from all users and still allow them to modify the document. Since upgrading to 2007 no user without delete permissions has been able to modify existing documents. I have had to give all users delete permission which has been historically hazardous and would love to know if anyone has come across this problem before and how they got around it.
