Hi
To replicate /etc/passwd based users you'll also want the /etc/shadow file (requires root access) as that's where the passwords lurk.

Browse All TopicsIm setting up 2 servers which mirror each other with a cron running "unison" (similar to rsync).
Currently Im mirroring the /var/www folder for apache and the apache vhosts folder.
My question is...
I have a shell script that allows me to answer a few questions and then the script creates a vhost file, users, permissions, and a database. What files in /etc/ can I mirror with unison to make sure new system/linux users are created on both servers? Is there a problem in syncing /etc/passwd and /etc/group ?? And what other files should I sync (if any) ??
I want to prevent having to login to both servers and running the script twice. I want to run the script from either server and have unison sync the updates/newusers.

I don't know what else you value. The config files for your apps, any settings files.
