How to make Client verify it is talking to my server

Asked by dgerler in Security Issues in Programming, C# Programming Language, Microsoft Visual C#.Net

I have a client program that automatically uses a webservice to download updates from my server. I need to have the client make sure it is really talking to my server before sending any information and downloading anything from the server.

I've had recommendations to use SSL certificates, but I have been unable to find any examples of doing this. It may be I'm just not using the right keywords.

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be apprciated. I am programming in C# 2008 with .net 3.5.
