The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

AS400 V5R3M0 in Windows 2003 Domain - EIM Should we impliment?

Asked by cpfister in Programming for iSeries / AS400

Tags: eim, as400, iseries

We are currently running a Windows 2003 domain and have a ISeries Model 9402-820.  We use our AS400 for Billing and Customer Troule Ticket Software.  I have looked into the EIM documentation and it seems like a great way to have a SSE (Single Signon Environment) and make the management of password / signon environment easier.

We currently have different password policies for the Windows Domain and the AS400.
We do not have the same user id's between Windows and AS400
e.g. Johndoe (windows) - jdoe (AS400)

Questions:

1 - By implimenting EIM, can users still log into the AS400 without using the kerberos authentication?  The reason I ask is we have systems in place that authenticate to the AS400 via ODBC and have specific usernames and password AND some users we will not want to create the EIM mapping and have them continue to use the AS400 standard signon.

Assuming question 1 is YES.
2 - With the AS400 password policy in place, once EIM is implimented will users need to continue to manage their passwords on the AS400?
e.g. Policy is password change every 120 days. After 120 days, user Johndoe signs into his Windows Desktop, opens the iseries navigator which is configured for EIM/kerberos, will the AS400 force him to reset his password or will the local AS400 password only need to be reset if JohnDoe signs onto the AS400 without the EIM mapping.
