Well when I first came on with the company they were in bad shape, they didnt have a firewall, anti-virus, or a spam filter on the server, it was acting as a open relay and blocked on every blacklist you could imagine. They also didn't have a backup system.
Well long story short, I configured a firewall, installed anti-virus and a spam filter for their exchange server, closed the open relay and enabled tarpitting to stop the attacks. also got backups going on the system and configured the server to a array, it was on a single drive.
everything was running smooth, but then the as400 guy used terminal services to login to the sbs, but now is unable to connect to the as400 server from the sbserver. Clients are still able to connect to the as400, just not from the sbserver.
What port does as400 usually operate on, what port do I opn on the sbs to allow connection.
Thanks in advance

This sounds more like a SBS Windows Server problem than an AS400 issue. Gary gave you the ports, but once they are on Terminal Services into the SBS Server, the support person is on the internal network and that should be bypassing the firewall so it should not be an issue. Is there a firewall between the SBS Server and the Internal Network? You can also check the connectivity to the 400 on the SBS Server, if they are using IBM's ISeries Access on the SBS Server. You can verify connectivity on a port level from Iseries Navigator or using the dos command line utility called CWBPING. Either will show you what services on the AS400 are answering.

Lot of services run on the AS/400, just like on a Windows box or a Unix box. You'll need to identify the services that he needs to run, and open the appropriate ports. If he just needs TN5250 (Workstation function), port 23 will probably do it (992 if SSL).

te that ports are configurable, so your system could vary. Log onto the AS/400 and run NETSTAT (then select Option 3) from the command line to see a list of listening services and ports. Put the cursor on any screen element and press F1 for interactive help. Press F14 to toggle between port numbers and names.
