Browse All TopicsHi Experts,
I have an SQL command that creates extra characters to the result file when I use fixed data.
e.g. Select ' ', Field01, ' ' from etc.
the both ' ' in this select are stored in the result file as hex 000140 instead of 40
if the ' ' is 2 spaces the result is 00024040 instead of 4040.
the same result if I try to use a CPYTOSTMF with whatever file the hex value 00BA, 00BB or 00BC is added as prefix in front of the records. I assume it is also using SQL.
Q. Where is the prefix coming from and how to suppress this
Thanks,
Murph

Well, that the 0001 and 0002 components are lengths, and that is the notation that is used with variable lenght character fields: two bytes of length, followed by the actual data. The 00BA, 00BB, 00BC after CPYTOSTMF are probably just the results of translation.

How are the fields defined in the result file? Make sure they are fixed character. Cast the generated columns to fixed character in your SQL, if needed.
