Question

How do I change the time an AS400 will disable an idle user account?

Asked by: ista_na

I have an AS400 system that will automatically disable user accounts that havent logged in for a certain amount of time. This causes obvious issues as you can imagine. I would like to know where this is set and/or how to turn it off.

GO SECTOOLS

The following commands are used to work with the user profile activation and expiration schedule:

DSPEXPSCD - Display Expiration Schedule
CHGEXPSCDE - Change Expiration Schedule Entry

DSPACTSCD - Display Activation Schedule
CHGACTSCDE - Change Expiration Schedule Entry.

All documented in the Security Reference for your version,

Here's the V5R4 Security Reference, for example:  http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzahg/rzahgsecref.htm

Thanks Gary, I tried these commands and no users show up. Is there another command by chance?

Inactive users can be found using the Analyze Profile Activity (ANZPRFACT) command, or by calling one of the QSECIDL programs in QSYS, with a parameter of number of days of inactivity. Users inactive longer than that are disabled.
Check your job schedule entries (WRKJOBSCDE) for a job named QSECIDL1; it may be running and disabling inactive users.

Post back!

I haven't set this up for a while, but if you look at the job scheduler (WRKOBSCDE), you'll see the jobs that handle profile deactivation/deletion.

There are also:

  DSPACTPRFL    Display Active Profile List
  CHGACTPRFL   Change Active Profile List

CHGACTPRFL allows you to add profiles to the 'Active' list. Profiles on that list won't be disabled even if they exceed the inactivity limit.

Note that if no profiles show up on the lists, it simply means that no one has added any.

BH: If I just hold the job indefinitly, that should take care of it right? It was running in there and scheduled weekly so that was the culprit I'm pretty sure.

by: _b_hPosted on 2009-10-01 at 18:50:30ID: 25474712

Yes, just hold the job schedule entry and see if that was the cause.

Thanks BH, this was exactly what I was looking for.

> If I just hold the job indefinitly,...

Be sure that this doesn't violate whatever security policy might be in place. Regulated industry? Public agency? Government contracts? Etc.
