Which system call or standard library function should i use to know
if a file does exist.

OK, i thought of using stat system call, if it returns without error the file does exist (i discard the structure i'm passing as argument), i don't like this very much.
Is there another (more direct) way?

On success, zero is returned.  On error, -1  is  returned, and errno is set appropriately.

       ENOENT A  component  of the path file_name does not exist,
              or the path is an empty string.

you need to use access(filepath,F_OK) to find whether the file exists. If it exists a zero is returned and it will be confirmed that the file exists.

I'm seeing the manpage for access(), it seems that is what i need.
