The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Recording a call via a winmodem using PHP on Fedora 3

Asked by Adesso21 in Linux Programming

Greetings from Africa

I recently got the task of writing a dialer/ recorder for a callcentre system that records calls made and saves the output in MP3 format on a server. The company got a half baked solution from a local developer that has many bugs and is not able to solve or improve his solution. Since the code has been encrypted using Zend Optimizer it is impossible for me to actually see the components used. What I do know is that it makes use of PHP, Apache and a driver provided by linuxent

I have started writing a similar interface using PHP and Apache and after some initial problem with permission I managed to get the modem to respond to a normal fopen/fwrite command. The modem dials OK and I am sure with more development I would be able to implement a OOP driven solution for dialing.

The part that I can not figure out is the recording bit. I don't even know where to start.... What I have noticed is that the current solution uses some modprobe for a sound_slot_0 and some Fax software... but this has proved to be no help so far.

Is there anybody out there that knows how I could read from a modem voice device, or port the output of the voice to a normal dsp device so I can write the recording to file.

The modem in question is a Connexant HsFi , chipset CX11252-11.
the server runs PHP 5 with Apache 2 on Fedora Core 3 with the latest 2.6.10-1 kernel
