Adding an application to the panel

I've been working with CentOS 4.2 with Gnome and have been successful downloading several programs, extracting files, and with Firefox 1.5, I was able to copy the executable file from its folder to a panel.  I downloaded and installed K3b and have burned several discs now.  But I have to click on Run Applications, select K3b to run it.  I can't figure out how to copy the icon to the panel.  Actually, I do not know what the executable file name is or where it is.  Can any of you help me with this?

You can find out the full path (where the executable is) by using the command:

$ which k3b

Then you can right click on the panel and add application (by providing the full path).  Have a look at http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/id-1917.html (Tip 1). <-- solution to the previous question.

The executable is more than likely k3b in /usr/bin (check using which k3b).  I'm guessing that you're using KDE.  To add k3b to the K menu, you can right click on the K menu button on the panel and click Menu Editor.  Once in the menu editor, right click on the sub-menu you wish to add k3b to and click New Item.  Fill in the details on the right and click save at the top.  Once you've done this you can right click the panel and select Panel Menu/Add to Panel/Application and browse to where you put k3b.  Now you have k3b in both the K Menu and the panel ;)

Done!  Thanks much.  After reading the Gnome for Dummies, I right clicked on the panel, selected Application Launcher, but didn't know where to find the file until a ran 'which k3b' and yes, it was /usr/bin/k3b.  And I'm not sure about "using KDE" except that earlier I had run #yum install k3b" and apparently the KDE libraries were instsalled.  Am I right about this?  I do not see a K menu on the Gnome panel.

I'm sorry, I guessed that you were using KDE rather than Gnome.  I'm not exactly sure how to add an application to the Gnome menu, but I don't imagine it's much different  .Gnome's equivilant to the K Menu is usually a foot icon on the panel.

Thanks again.  I am impressed with your continued looks at this post.  Most of the time only a single response is made, and I suppose the experts go on to other questions even though the original answer might not be quite sufficient.
