The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Reformatting date feild using AWK

Howdy all

I have a "csv" file (delimited by |'s, so not really a csv ;) which has data from an old unix SQL database, that formats the date using the dd-MMM-YYYY format, which when I try to import into mysql, fails.

We currently have an AWK script that does some other base conversions of the old data for us, which is:

cat tct-mv.csv |awk -F "|" '{print  $1"|"$2"|"$3" "$4" "$5"|"$6"|"$7"|"$8"|"$9"|"$10"|"$11"|"$12"|"13"|"14}' > tanzmove.csv

Here is a sample line of data from that "csv" file:

000002|TYRE|TYRE 11.00 X 20 COMES WITH|INNER TUBE AND RUST BAND TO|SUIT|TMWZ|31-MAR-2006|MU|-2.0000|264.7375|-594.87|TT79|WB-000625|Job IssueC11


Now, what I tried to do was use the date command to reformat the date for me, by doing this:

cat tct-mv.csv |awk -F "|" '{print  $1"|"$2"|"$3" "$4" "$5"|"$6"|"'`date --date=$7 +%F`'"|"$8"|"$9"|"$10"|"$11"|"$12"|"13"|"14}' > tanzmove.csv

When I run that command, the date feild in that list is set to 1977. I can only assume that means it did not pass $7 through to the date command, maybe?


I am not overly familiar with AWK, as the original script was written by my predecessor... if anyone knows how I can go about formatting the date into a mysql compatable format would be most appreciated!
