mplayer eventually loses ability to play using svgalib from command line

After some length period of playing 20 or so videos over and over, mplayer eventually stops playing the video and the monitor shows "no signal".

We have an application that is launching mplayer every 45 seconds or so to play several 30 sec videos.  After working fine for about 12 hours, it eventually stops playing the video and the monitor goes into a 'no signal' mode.

We're running Debian Lenny on an INTEL board (D945GSEJT).

mplayer version
MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.3.2-DFSG-free (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team

I'm not sure if svgalib is running out of virtual consoles due to some issue w/ svgalib or what.  I would be willing to switch -vo modes.  Or run some command that would reset the video subsystem to sanity in between videos.

Probably a video driver issue. What graphic card does the PC have?

This motherboard has the onboard Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950.

I'm not sure what the kernel module name for this graphic card is, but try removing and re-adding it once in a while (maybe each 10 minutes or so).

I'll give it a try.  It takes anywhere from 2-24 hours to give up the video subsystem ghost, so it'll take some time to find out if that's a reasonable work-around.  To tell you the truth, I'm not 100% sure which driver this card is attaching to.  Do you know of a good way of finding out?

any specific reason you are using SVGALIB output instead of xv or other X win-related output?
