The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Shellexecute equivalent on MAC using CodeWarrior Pro 9

Asked by coderen in General Macintosh Programming

Tags: ,

Dear experts,

On the Windows platform I use the following instruction:
ShellExecute(NULL, "open","d:\\kubus\\tool\\win\\lp_xmlconverter.exe",
            "libpart2xml c:\\kubus\\test_2.gsm c:\\kubus\\test_3.xml",
            "d:\\kubus\\tool\\win", SW_HIDE);

I like to find the equivalent instruction for the MAC (C++)?
The program lp_xmlconverter converts a gsm file to the xml format. For windows this program is a dos program.
On the MAC I have the same tool that I can start from a terminal. The question is how to call this program in C++ with all the parameters?
The syntax in the terminal is almost the same as used on the windows platform
lp_xmlconverter libpart2xml <source> <destination>

The Mac platform is completely new for me.
To use the ShellExcute instruction the header file shellapi.h must be included in the C++ program #include <shellapi.h>
Which header files must be included for the MAC?
I have tried to use popen, but my version of CodeWarrior Pro 9 does not support this instruction.
Further Í have tried to use the fork() and execlp instructions, but the header file to use fork() I can't find.

I have Codewarrior IDE version 5.5 Build 1292

Another issue is that I have no idea how to indicate the path on the MAC. A directory indicated on a Windows machine is like d:\kubus\tool\win on a MAC is this /kubus/tool/win or <hard drive name>:kubus:tool:win? Which notation should be used in the C++ code?

With kind Regards
